The 182 lives to fight another year on the road!

After fun and games the trekker finally gets an MOT today, after a fail on the beam roller bearings, only to find the reason they failed was that it has NO inner bearings!!!! – no wonder it had play in it!

Mot time for the 182

Just in time to leave for the Volksworld Show tomorrow…

Nothing like cutting it fine

Gearbox fun and games on the Trekker

Started to find when I was driving the car hard the engine and box would move, so looked into it and found gear box mounts needed a little attention to say the least!

So out with the engine:

Trekker Engine out

Trekker Engine out

vw 182 motor all out!

Was a bit tight getting it out!

And the reason for the movement!

Busted trekker gearbox mount!

Think its time they were replaced so did the lot!

Rear seat belt in the trekker….

well its been far to long since I updated the blog

winter is nearly here so will get on with a load of new jobs now the car will be off the road till next year now….

The last job I did was to fit a rear 3 point belt in the back of the trekker so I can take my daughter out with me, heres a load of photos to show how I did it

I bought some seat belt plates off ebay that have the seat belt nut welded to a spreader plate, I fixed one under the wing and bolted through to mount the reel.

The next bit was fun!!!

I took the rear roof off as I was using a cutting tool to cut a flap in the box section so I could fold the metal down, slide a spreader plate in and then fold the flap back, I didnt bother welding back up as I thought you never see it and if I needed to paint it wasnt worth the hassel. Then bolted the top of the belt through onto that plate and it was pretty much sorted. I then fitted the clasp to the normal lapbelt hole and we were done, fairly easy job and very strong. Not been for a mot yet but dont think it will be an issue.

Duckboards

Been pondering what to do on my floor for sometime, wanted to do carpet but reckon it would get trashed, so opted for Duck boards

Fronts all complete just need to screw the backs together now

MOT Work :-(

That dreaded time again – MOT

Had an advisory last year on one of the front ball joints, so thought for the sake of it, change all four while I was doing one!

Took the shocks off to find they had seen better days so bought these today:

Bugpack Lowered Shocks

Also found that the shocks that were on there were stock height and since removing them the car had gone lower!

Bonus…

Also found the beam had no grease nipples so fitting those today also.

Then off for a ticket to see what other surprises are lurking
